1. My role would most probably be civil or military defence because I am a student. I am a boy so I would play a part in the NS.

2. Singapore needs intelligent people so I can study hard to be a useful person next time.

Maths

A mathematician proposed that "Every even number greater than 2 can be expressed as a sum of two prime numbers." Do you agree? Why?

Yes. In all prime numbers, 2 is the only prime number that is an even number, all the other prime numbers are all odd numbers. Two odd numbers added up would equal to an even number. So, all even numbers greater than 2 can be expressed as a sum of two prime numbers.

12 Jan (02): History of Numbers...& Numbers as a Language

Instead of ten digits like we have today, the Maya used a base number of 20. (Base 20 is vigesimal.) They also used a system of bar and dot as "shorthand" for counting. A dot stood for one and a bar stood for five. In the following table, you can see how this works.

Because the base of the number system was 20, larger numbers were written down in powers of 20. We do that in our decimal system too: for example 32 is 3*10+2. In the Maya system, this would be 1*20+12, because they used 20 as base.

Camp reflections

What are the three main points (or more) that you had learnt from all the activities?

I have learnt that when we work as a team we must communicate with each other well. Also, I have learnt that IMPOSSIBLE is NOTHING, and that when the time comes we should not think too much and JUST do IT.

How can all this pointers be of help to you?

I guess it raises my confidence level for me to do things, to stretch beyond my potential.

If you were to have another chance to try all the activities, which one will you choose? Why?

I would choose the rock wall again because I did not go very high the first time.

If there is one thing you would like to change about yourself, what would it be?

I want my voice to finish breaking faster so I can sing or shout in peace.

Amazing race reflection

Expanding our learning networks: so our learning doesn't just stop in the classroom? Like we can go out and do something more interesting than hugging our apples in class...? This value is important because if we limit our learning environment to just the class we might not be able to learn things that are not found in class.

Forging excellence is to be excellent? I believe that even if I do not have what it takes for me to achieve excellence, SST will provide me the needs to become excellent. I think determination is what we really need to excel in what we do. Also, we must be interested and willing to that thing. By contributing ideas I think I can help the class to succeed.
